Meet Nick & Emily Hackl:
For the first 18 years of my life, I grew up in Federal Way, WA. In 1998 my family started attending Christ's Church where I got the opportunity to experience Awana at CCFW as a child. After graduating high school, I joined the Air Force where I was stationed at Dover AFB, Delaware for 4 years. in 2012, my enlistment ended where I joined the reserves and was stationed back in WA at JBLM. The real story begins after arriving back in WA. It was then that I met my beautiful wife through a mutual friend, Brittany Robeson. Emily was very eager to reintroduced me to Awana, but this time as a leader. The best couple of decisions I have made.
My favorite verse is Romans 4:5, "But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness." After struggling with memorizing this verse for Awana as a kid, it somehow clicked and have never forgotten it. Much of the reason I enjoy this verse is because it is sets the principle that righteousness is not accounted to us through any form of righteous works because we are completely sinful. It is only through faith in Christ, one who is perfectly righteous, who can justify us from unrighteousness. This verse provides encouragement in my life especially as I read about so many other righteous people in the Bible like Lot, Noah, Daniel, Job, and Ezekiel.
I am excited this year to get to know more leaders and get ideas on how we can better serve Christ and improve our Awana program. I wish to see our Awana leaders to develop very personal relationships with the kids so we can disciple the next generation of kids to be leaders in the church.
I've lived in Washington my whole life. I grew up in the Lynnwood area with my mom, Cary, and two sisters, Stephanie (older) and Cydne (younger). I slowly made my way south once my oldest sister had my second nephew. When I worked at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance I met Brittany Robeson, formerly Wright. Brittany invited me to church and her Life Group where I was able to learn more about who Jesus is and what He did for us. During lunch one day she asked me, "If you were to die today do you think you would go to heaven?" That question changed my whole and the direction I was heading. One year later Brittany introduced me to Nick and I started on my next great adventure.
One of my favorite Bible verses is 2 Corinthians 5:7, "for we walk by faith, not by sight." I love this verse because it reminds that walking by faith is something we should be doing always. We won't see God in this life and sometimes, in the midst of our problems, it's hard to even feel Him close, but I know He is always here with me.
This year I'm excited to build relationships with Awana leaders and clubbers and find ways of helping them build relationships with each other. My hope is that our leaders will find renewed purpose in the amazing opportunity they have to reach the next generation.
