A few things to know about Children’s Ministry:
Worship and Praise is an important part of our Sunday service. The first 30 minutes either in the large group setting or individual classrooms, we are singing to the Lord (shorter in the Nursery). Motions are a part of the experience, so good especially for the younger children so that they can understand and memorize lyrics. Our songs are carefully chosen and include both modern and traditional lyrics, mostly with modern musical settings. Live instruments are used at least once per month.
Bible teaching, application, and prayer are priority. Though the format is slightly different (large group teaching and small group discussion and prayer at the 8:30 service and individual classrooms by age at the 10:30am service) I ask elementary children to bring their own Bibles so that they are used to reading from their personal copy at church. We do have Bibles on hand also.
Offering to the Lord is important for children as it is for adults. We give offering money toward a CCFW missionary for period of three months, then select another missionary. I encourage children to bring offering, and to talk with parents about serving at home so that money is not only ‘handed to’ them, but they are serving and then giving it. Additional household chores is a way children can serve and then give to the offering at church.
Our volunteers arrive at least 15 minutes before each service. We encourage you to bring your children at that time. The fellowship around table games is a great way for our volunteers to get to know your children, and for children to get to know their peers. Our youth assistants also participate and have a special eye out for the children, themselves being just a few years older.
A Take-home card is given each week to children/parents when church service is over. The card lists the passage of Scripture studied/taught and the big-idea takeaway. Please use this and other methods to follow-up with your children and to dig deeper into the Bible lesson they are learning here at church. We are now in the book of Genesis teaching Creation through the life of Jacob.
Parent Resources are important for all of us as we navigate this great adventure called Parenting. Soon you’ll be receiving an invitation to join the Children’s Ministry Facebook group where resources will be available to help with everything from growing in Christ to suggestions regarding technology to common behaviors and how to address them. We want to be as helpful as possible to you. Also, we’re working on a spot in the CM building where parent resources will be available to take home.
