“Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that He has done, His miracles, and the judgments He uttered.” 1 Chronicles 16:10-12
Looking for some ideas to spark your praise of our Lord? In these verses there are three: glory, seek, and remember. What do these mean?
Glory: Boast, rave, celebrate, commend, rejoice in, delight in. So I’m to boast in His holy name, celebrate it, rejoice in it. What would it look like to boast in God’s glory? Maybe it’s telling someone else what the Lord has done recently in your life. Or perhaps it’s to sing songs of praise to the One who deserves it.
“I will glory in my Redeemer
whose priceless blood has ransomed me.
Mine was the sin that drove the bitter nails
and hung Him on that judgment tree.
I will glory in my Redeemer
Who crushed the power of sin and death;
my only Savior before the before the holy Judge;
The Lamb who is my Righteousness.
The Lamb who is my Righteousness.”
I see a number of things in this song to inspire me to celebrate, boast in, and glory in my Lord.
Next, we have ‘seek.’ We know that seek means to search out, desire, request, inquire. What is it that we’re to seek for? The Lord, His strength, and His presence. How about praying through Psalm 23, praising Him for His presence as our Shepherd who takes such meticulous care of us and protects us from attack?
And then, ‘remember.’ Think on, bring to one’s mind, recall, record. We’ve just spent many weeks memorizing verses all about God and His attributes. These present a fertile ground for praise. Praise Him for who He is!
Praise is not limited to standing in church on Sunday mornings and singing worship songs. We praise God every day by what we think, do, and say. Be creative! Be on the lookout daily for things that cause you to glory, seek, and remember our Lord and Savior!
