David Showed Mercy (1 Samuel 24)
Read & Discuss
After the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln became known for his mercy, issuing pardons to many soldiers who had fought in the war. He wanted to reunite a divided country, and he knew showing mercy was a way to peacefully move forward. Saul was determined to kill David. When David had a chance to get revenge, he showed mercy. David was committed to doing what was right, even when difficult. He trusted God and we must as well. Trusting God means believing He has a plan and will work out all things in His time. Remember the great mercy God has showed us by sending His Son, Jesus, to die in our place.
Activity
Organize a neighborhood food drive. Set a date and create a flyer, and pass them out to promote it. As a family, walk the neighborhood and collect the items, then deliver to the food pantry.
Memory Verse
Tape this card onto the kitchen table. Each day have a family member say Jeremiah 10:6-7a out loud and everyone then try to say it back word perfect. “There is none like You, O Lord; You are great, and Your name is great in might. Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? For this is Your due.”
Prayer
Praise God for His great kindness and mercy toward us. Ask God for opportunities to show kindness and mercy to someone who may not deserve it, and give you His strength for this action.
