Freedom From the Philistines (1 Samuel 7)

Read & Discuss

Are you familiar with the word repent? It means to change your mind. You change your belief about something and now believe the opposite. The Bible talks of the word repent when it calls people to change the way we think about sin. When we think doing things our own way and pleasing ourselves is the way to live, the Bible calls this sin. Samuel told the Israelites to repent – turn away from sin and turn to God. When God’s people turned from their sin and instead were sorrowful about disobeying God and obeyed Him again, God blessed them with victory over enemies. When we turn from our sin to belief and faith in Jesus, God blesses us with salvation and a relationship with God our Creator.

Activity

Get a bucket of soapy water and a bucket of clean water. Wash the inside and outside of a window in the house that looks outside to your street. Read Psalm 51:10 and 1 John 1:9. God reminds us He is faithful to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Memory Verse

Each family member quote Philippians 4:19 - “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” What is one of the riches of God that you have received from Him?

Prayer

Thank God for hearing us when you call on Him. Tell God how much you love Him for the mercy and grace He’s given you in a recent time of need (Hebrew 4:16).
