Solomon Thought About Life (Ecclesiastes 1:1-11)
Read & Discuss
Calvin Seibert is a professional artist who specializes in creating beautiful and extravagant sandcastles (parents: google to show the family some amazing pics). With simple tools like buckets and trowels, piles of sand become masterpieces. Yet, Seibert knows that no matter how detailed and beautiful the sandcastle, it will eventually be washed away by the tide. In Ecclesiastes, Solomon wrote that we may try to find happiness in toys, games, or being popular, but only God can give us true joy and purpose. Focus on what’s important: knowing God, loving others, and doing good things that please our Lord. These things will last forever.
Activity
Take a large piece of paper and as a family, draw things on one side that make us happy for a little while (like toys, games, or snacks). On the other side draw things that last forever and please God (like showing kindness, loving others, and praying). Hang the sheet on the fridge as a reminder.
Memory Verse
Write out Proverbs 3:7 on a 3x5 card, both in cursive and print: “Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.” Talk about this verse at dinner time.
Prayer
Praise God for sending Jesus to be the Savior and King who reigns forever and ever. Thank God for your salvation and the forgiveness of sins. Ask the Lord to bring to mind the good things He is doing and then, give thanks!
