Saul Disobeyed God (1 Samuel 14-15)
Read & Discuss
In 1964, Jim Marshall made football history for the wrong reasons. The opposing team fumbled the football, and Jim picked it up and ran 66 yards into the end zone. The problem was that Jim had run the wrong way into the opponent’s end zone and that gave points to the other team. Mistakes have consequences, and we’ve all made mistakes. Even though Saul was king, he was not perfect and sinned against God. Sin has consequences. Samuel told Saul that God would soon replace him with another king. The greatest sin is to reject God’s Son, Jesus, and not surrender your life to Him. The consequence is separation from God for all eternity. When we believe in Jesus, we are made right with God and accepted by Him.
Activity
Play a game of “Mother/Father may I?” as a family. Have mom or dad look up the rules. Remember, if a family member doesn’t ask “May I?” they must go back and start over. Discuss how Saul disobeyed God and the consequences that came from his sin.
Memory Verse
Did last week’s Scripture rap idea throw you a bit? 😊Try it today with Psalm 103:19: “The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.”
Prayer
Ask God to remove pride from your life and help you put Him and others first. We need God to help us grow our love for Jesus so that we can serve Him with all our heart.
