Solomon Became King (1 Kings 2, 3:1-15)
Read & Discuss
If you could ask for anything in the world, what would you ask for? You might ask for money, or superhero powers. You could even ask for a lifetime supply of sour gummy bears, but then you’d probably need to ask for a dentist! When God gave Solomon the chance to ask for anything in the world, Solomon asked God for wisdom. God gave Solomon the wisdom he requested, and God added life, riches, and honor. James 1:5 says “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask of God…and it will be given to him.” God wants us to have wisdom to know Him and know how to honor Him with our lives. Most of all, God wants to give us the wisdom to believe in Jesus and trust in Him as Lord!
Activity
Ask each family member, “What would you ask God for if He gave you the same opportunity He gave to Solomon?” Write down the responses and discuss which request might be a good or bad choice depending on how it was used.
Memory Verse
Our final verse of the summer is Proverbs 3:7. It says, “Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.”
Prayer
Ask God to give you wisdom for today. Ask Him to guide you in the choices you make and conversations with others. Praise God for His plans we can trust even when we don’t understand why they are taking place.
