Solomon Built the Temple (1 Kings 6-8)
Read & Discuss
When a family relative comes to stay for a visit, you get the house ready. Everyone participates by cleaning, dusting, straightening up furniture, and preparing special meals. When Solomon became king, the people of Israel spent seven years building a temple for God. The temple had cedar panels, bronze furniture, and everything inside the temple was covered with pure gold! In John 1:14 we read that when Jesus came, the “Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” We no longer visit a temple to meet with God because He came to us! And what a blessing it is that as believers, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). Have you trusted in Jesus to forgive your sins and received the gift of eternal life? And, praise God, one day we’ll live with God forever. Amazing!
Activity
Thank God for His Holy Spirit who lives within believers. Praise God for sending the Holy Spirit as a reminder of the promise of eternal life.
Memory Verse
Start with one person saying the verse once. Then each successive person says the verse their number of times (2, 3, 4, etc). Proverbs 3:7 “Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.”
Prayer
Talk about the Christ’s Church building as a family. Talk about how we no longer need a building to worship God. Yet, we can make the building beautiful and welcoming to the community to introduce them to Jesus!
