Vital Questions to Ask

Recently, I had someone ask me how they could communicate the gospel truth to a few people who had misunderstandings about Christianity yet showed an interest in knowing more.

I suggested sending them the following questions that are designed to prompt a search for ultimate answers about the truth of the gospel. Maybe you know someone who is showing interest and needs to do some more digging and consider the answers to these questions.

  1. Read John 14:6 and John 8:24: Why would anyone ever decide to follow Jesus Christ versus following any other religious leader?

  2. Read Romans 3:10–12, 23; 6:23; and Ephesians 2:8–9: What did you learn about yourself that helped you recognize your deep-down need for a deliverer like Jesus Christ?

  3. Read Acts 4:12; John 14:9b; 1 Timothy 2:5–7; and 1 Peter 3:18: What did you learn about Jesus Christ that causes you to understand He is your only hope for the ultimate deliverance?

  4. Read Luke 13:3 and John 1:11–12: What did you learn about how you should personally respond to Jesus Christ knowing He is your only hope for deliverance?

  5. Galatians 5:22–23; Ephesians 2:10; James 2:20: What evidence is God looking for that testifies you are truly following Jesus Christ, and your life is being transformed?

What everyone needs most in life is the good news of Jesus Christ. We need Him because we are guilty sinners and cannot by our own power escape the eternal penalty of death for our sins. We need Him because He alone paid the full penalty for our sins, so by faith in Him and His delivering work we can receive forgiveness and the gift of eternal life.

Take some time and memorize Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” The power for real change is in the good news and we must look for ways to spread its saving truth to as many people as possible.

Maybe send a simple email to a family member or friend inviting them to read some important Bible references and then ask them to answer a few foundational questions. It’s only one way of many to spread His transformative gospel around to others.
