August: Will you wither as a tree in the desert or thrive as a tree planted by the waters?

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream, and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought, nor cease to yield fruit. (Jeremiah 17: 7-8)

September: We wither when we make our own truth; we thrive when we understand and obey the truth of God’s unchanging word.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers. (Psalm 1:2-3)

October: We wither when we rely on mankind to define our worldviews and we thrive when our truth and our values are determined by God in His word.

Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)

November: We wither when we are full of pride and we thrive when we live for God’s glory.

For My hand made all these things, thus all these things came into being,” declares the Lord. “But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word. (Isaiah 66:2)

January: We wither when we are selfish and we thrive when we put God and others first.

And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39)

February: We wither when our emotions control us and we thrive when we control our emotions according to God’s will.

The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart. (Luke 6:45)

March: We wither when we worry and we thrive when we trust God.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

April: We wither when we are angry and we thrive when we are kind.

So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. (Colossians 3:12-13)

May: We wither when we don’t forgive and we thrive when we follow God’s plan for forgiveness.

Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:32)

June: We wither when we are not content and we thrive when we are satisfied in Christ.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:20-21)

July: We wither when our past defines us and we thrive when we use our past for God’s purposes.

Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:11)
