God is Pro-Life

Two weeks ago, I had the privilege—along with more than 25 others from Christ’s Church—of attending the annual Care Net Light & Life Fundraising Lunch & Dinner. This year’s featured speaker was the dynamic Dr. William Lile, known nationwide as “The Prolife Doc.” In 1999, Dr. Lile took over what had been the largest abortion-providing practice in Pensacola. On his very first day, he ended all abortion services and referrals. Today, he uses that same equipment—not for destruction, but as powerful educational tools to expose the reality of abortion and to advocate for life with compassion, truth, and grace. A board-certified OB/GYN and former department chair, Dr. Lile has also served as an instructor with both the University of Florida and Florida State University OB/GYN residency programs.

At the dinner event, Dr. Lile had us spellbound as he essentially took us to “medical school.” Repeatedly using the phrase, “a patient is a person no matter how small,” he demonstrated how modern medical technology employs remarkable procedures and advancements to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions while a baby is still in the womb. While these realities are truly astonishing (I encourage you to explore the videos on his website), we are reminded that our pro-life conviction is not rooted merely in medical advancement, but in the character of God Himself, who defines and values life.

Recently, you may have heard in the news that James Talarico, a U.S. Senate Democrat candidate from Texas, claimed (as a self-professed Christian) that the Gospel of Luke supports abortion. This is a ludicrous and egregious claim to say the least. I encourage you to read the following Breakpoint article by John Stonestreet and Timothy D. Padgett titled “The Bible Does Not Support Abortion,” which carefully addresses this issue.

The culture of death remains strong in our nation and around the world. Therefore, of all people, we as believers must faithfully uphold a culture of life as God’s representatives, made in His image. As a church, we are grateful to support the ministry of Care Net, which currently operates nine locations in the Puget Sound area (with a tenth soon to open), including one in Federal Way. They provide confidential, life-affirming, no-cost medical services for those exploring pregnancy options, along with meaningful opportunities to volunteer in this vital ministry.

Let us take to heart the exhortation of Proverbs 31:8: “Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all the unfortunate.”

Foundational Faith Statement 26:
What happens after death to those not united to Christ by faith? At the day of judgment, they will receive the fearful but just sentence of condemnation pronounced against them. They will be cast out from the favorable presence of God, into hell, to be justly and grievously punished, forever (John 3:16–18, 36).
