What a Savior!
This note might come across as a little different or perhaps even a bit weird from me, so hang in there until the end.
This last Saturday, I had the privilege of speaking to 44 Young Adults from Living Hope Bible Church (Issaquah) at their weekend retreat. I met their pastor, Joe Lum during COVID and we encouraged each other and exchanged ideas with other pastors about how our churches were navigating the onerous COVID restrictions.
Stop It!
In my Bible reading this week, I was accosted by two words Paul wrote to the Corinthians: “stop sinning” (1 Cor. 15:34). Most believers would think this kind of hard edict is unhelpful until you remember that it is direct revelation from God to Paul to His church, and the Scripture is chock-full of many reasons why this needs to be shouted from the housetops.
Better Than a Three-legged Chicken!
I saw the new movie Reagan this week, and it was inspirational and moving. I highly recommend it. It made me recall one of my favorite jokes President Reagan used to tell.
Where are the Protesters?
You would have to be a hermit or have your head in the sand not to hear about or see the disorderly and disgraceful conduct of the anti-Semitic, pro-Palestinian protesters. They are fearless and undeterred about having their shrill voices heard even if it means destroying property and defying law and police.
Ten Commandments for Christian Parenting
While doing some reading this past week, I ran across an article entitled Ten Proposed Commandments for Christian Parenting and thought it would be worth sharing since we are hosting our Family Conference this weekend (Aug 23–24, you can still register) and focusing this next ministry year on Building Godly Families. You can read more about these commandments at the link above.
An Olympic Deflection & Reflection
Monday, August 12, Forbes posted this article: 2024 Paris Olympics: Sydney McLauglin-Levrone Breaks World Record And U.S. Wins 34 Track & Field Medals
It was one of many articles that has championed the thrill of victory for the U.S. Olympic athletes. The Forbes article began this way: “Team USA earned 34 medals in the track and field competitions at the Paris Olympics, the highest medal count since the 1984 L.A. Games. American track athletes earned 14 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals.”
But the title emphasized one athlete, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. Who is she and what makes her uniquely stand out among the 126 U.S. medalists?
Building Godly Families
Over this next year, we will be focusing our attention as an entire church on “Building Godly Families.” We will be kicking this effort off with a Family Conference here at CCFW in just two weeks on August 23rd and 24th. The purpose of this conference is to help strengthen families by equipping parents, grandparents (as well as future parents and grandparents), and anyone that is involved in teaching, training, and raising up the next generation. That means you!
